Project
The San Juan Mine requires 1,600 acres of seeding and irrigation to establish new growth for revegetation efforts, and to meet bond requirements for mine closure. At San Juan Mine, the average annual rainfall is only 8 inches making it a semi-arid desert climate.
Solution
Our WestMET ERS US team had facilitated site mapping to ensure our pipe placement plan was laid out accordingly to cover all areas for watering and to make its services available across all types of terrain in the field.
The team irrigates all seeded areas for 2 years to establish sustainable vegetation growth in the long term. During irrigation, we maintain pumps, sprinklers and repair leaks, and utilize mowing equipment to keep growth from sprinklers. These measures help guarantee uniform watering coverages, control potential erosion or washouts from forming during watering, and attract wildlife to stay and live within the revegetated sites of the mine. Also, the team uses drill seeding with weed-free mulch to stabilize topsoil and aid retain irrigation moisture.
Result
Our WestMET ERS US team had successful 2025 and looks forward to continuing its assistance for the San Juan Mine needs into 2026 on seeding and irrigation supports.
